One of the first Immersadesk worlds built on the Immersadesk was adapted from an Iris Explorer visualization by Vasily Titov of PMEL's Tsunami group. Sea surface elevation data from his shallow-water wave model were overlayed onto high-resolution bathymetry of the southern tip of the Japanese island of Okushiri, the site of the largest tsunami recorded in Japan this centruy. This model output shows how the Hokkaido-Nansei-Oki tsunami of July 12, 1993 inundated the town of Aonae located on a peninsula on the southern tip of the island. Measurements of wave runup on made on the island compare favorably with the model results.
